A Hearty Chicago Breakfast

When Lisa Santos opened Southport Grocery and Café in Chicago’s trendy Wrigleyville in 2003, she did not want to serve breakfast. The CPA turned specialty food retailer/chef had enough to do without slinging pancakes at 8 in the morning.

That changed. Breakfast is now big business at her 36-seat café, which serves 350 orders of Bread Pudding Pancakes with Cinnamon Sugar Butter and Vanilla Custard Sauce every week. See recipe below.—Ron Tanner
