Fair Trade Wine Hits the Big Time
Whole Foods, Target add varietals to the mix.
user ratingFair Trade is a common label to find on chocolate or coffee these days, but now wines are joining the list. Whole Foods, Target and Sam's Club as well as other grocers and liquor stores are following the lead of the Europeans, who have been selling Fair Trade wines for five years, by stocking varietals from Chile, Argentina and South Africa. These award-winning wines wear appealing price tags (from $9.99 to $11.99), but that's not the biggest lure. As with all Fair Trade products, consumers get the assurance that farmers received fair prices, workers got decent wages and the product was produced in an environmentally responsible manner. Look for these award-winning brands-Live-A-Little from Stellar Organics in South Africa, Wandering Grape from Argentina and South Africa and Neu Direction from Argentina.
