For the Love of Curry

A visit to Thailand prompts a new sauce line.

Chef Michael Buechi knows it’s daunting for home cooks to create a from-scratch meal with exotic Asian flavors. That’s why the 20-year veteran of the restaurant and hospitality industry created his new Curry Love™ line of organic curry sauces. But it wasn’t only Buechi’s work at prestigious restaurants like Breakers in Palm Beach and the 5-star Baur au Lac Hotel in Zurich, Switzerland, that inspired him to make chef-quality sauces: It ended up being a trip to Thailand where he fell in love with culture and the food that made Curry Love™ curries a reality.

Buechi’s curries have a sustainable and philanthropic bent. Unlike many other curry brands, the line is made domestically using only USDA-certified organic ingredients. The sauces are vegan-vegetarian, and he uses biodegradable packaging and eco-friendly soy inks on the labels. Plus, Buechi gives back 1 percent of his profits to 1% for the Planet (www.onepercentfortheplanet.org/en/), a foundation that supports an alliance of businesses financially committed to creating a healthy planet. (His commitment to the health of people and the environment is no surprise: He grew up on an organic farm in Switzerland.)

Curry Love™ Luscious Yellow Thai Curry, Passion Red Thai Curry, and Blissful Banana Ginger Curry are available at www.mycurrylove.com for $6.99/11-ounce jar. They make a great gift too—send your friends a Curry Love™ Gift Set ($25.50), which combines all three curries in a beautiful gift box made of recycled and biodegradable packaging. In addition, there is a candle and set of matches, to add some romance to your meals. Check out the website for recipes.—Denise Shoukas
