La Pasta, Inc. - Marinara Sauce
2011 Gold Award Winner: Outstanding Pasta Sauceuser rating
Simplicity, says Alexis Konownitzine, president of La Pasta, is the key to the delicious flavors of its sofi Gold Award–winning Marinara. “We choose good tomatoes from California, fresh garlic, fresh basil, herbs, sea salt, pepper—and that’s it.”
More than two decades ago, La Pasta started as a small artisanal pasta-maker in the Washington, D.C., area. The delicious and distinctive pastas gained notoriety, and now La Pasta’s sales and reputation of high quality spans the mid-Atlantic.
La Pasta’s Marinara is a traditional sauce made with a delicious and classic trifecta of flavors—tomatoes, fresh garlic and basil—that embodies the company’s mantra of creating products of artisanal quality and letting the ingredients’ natural flavors come through.
“It’s not overly cooked, it’s not pureed, the tomatoes have natural sugar—we don’t have to add sugar,” Konownitzine says. “It’s simple so you can doctor it: You can add capers, olives, hot peppers or lemon zest.”
The Gold Award–winning Marinara is part of a line of sauces that includes Basil Pesto, Fileto di Pomodoro, Alfredo, Puttanesca and Pink Vodka. These sauces are created to pair well with the company’s pastas, such as Artichoke & Spinach Ravioli, Sweet Potato Gnocchi, Mushroom Tortelloni and Garlic & Parsley Linguine.—Leska Tomash
