Organic Madagascar Pink Rice™
user rating
This unique Malagasy rice variety may have been lost forever. Grown from a single seed, Madagascar Pink Rice amazed people with its abundant growth and satisfying, subtly sweet flavor. Elusively aromatic of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg, this soft supple rice is also nutritionally dense, milled to retain most of the wholesome bran layer.
Grown by small family farmers using water saving practices called SRI (system of rice intensification). We call it More Crop Per Drop™ since it enables some of the world’s most marginalized farmers to double their yields using 50% less water, 90% less seed, and no agrochemical inputs.
Lotus Foods supports sustainable global agriculture by promoting production of traditional heirloom rice varieties, many of which may otherwise have become extinct, while enabling small family rice farmers to earn an honorable living. In 2008, after 13 years in business, Lotus Foods embarked on an expansion of its social and environmental commitment by partnering with Cornell International Institute for Food, Agriculture and Development. It embraced a new more sustainable methodology for growing rice called System of Rice Intensification, which enables the world’s most marginalized farmers to double their yields using 50% less water, 90% less seed, and no agrochemical inputs.
