Monkey see, monkey do.

We all appreciate good service. If you’re not picky about who is doling it out, then you’ll want to check out Kayabukiya Tavern, a traditional sake house north of Tokyo, which has become very popular for its unusual service staff. The Japanese restaurant owner has started using his two pet macaque monkeys, named Yat-chan and Fuku-chan, to serve patrons. He came up with the idea when he realized his monkeys were capable of helping him when one of them started, well, aping him. Yat-chan takes drinks to customers, while the younger monkey, Fuku-chan, gives the diners a hot towel to help them clean their hands before they order their drinks (a Japanese custom). It’s all legal too—the monkeys are certified to work by local authorities, and happily accept tips of soya beans.—Denise Shoukas
