Winter Comfort Food: A Special Take on Chicken Pot Pie

In winter, chilled faces and hands have us craving a hot cup of fragrant tea or a steaming bowl of chili by the fire. Often the most comforting dishes are those that come from a time when meals needed to fill you up after a hard physical day in the fields or the factory. That may explain why they aren’t usually the most favorable meals to include in a healthy diet today.

We’re all hard-wired with a pesky “fat tooth” that drives us to fatty, high-caloric foods. Unless you’re a constantly training athlete or religious gym-goer, you may not want to indulge daily on the recipes here, but let yourself settle in with cozy comfort foods on the harshest winter days—until you’re ready to waddle back to the salad bar in spring.

The recipe linked below is a twist on two old favorites: Chicken Pot Pie and Chicken Paprika. Elegantly updated with Indian spices and simplified, much of the fat content of the original is reduced by eliminating the chicken skin and combining yogurt with the sour cream.  Make it family-style with a cut-up whole chicken.
